The Brief

Yet another exciting collaboration with WWF Canada to create stories that matter! This time, HLabs was tasked with breaking down complex scientific concepts into bite-sized, interactive visual narratives. Our mission? Showcase the vital role of Canada’s coastal carbon ecosystems in fighting climate change.

The Approach

For all complex ecosystems, a solid plan is essential. Our multidisciplinary team began by designing the visual layout in Figma, breaking down the science of carbon absorption across wetlands, seagrass beds, and kelp forests into dynamic, digestible diagrams.

Illustrations by our in-house team were key in visualising scientific concepts and blending diagrams with high-quality photography.

Once the design was finalised, we moved to VEV for web development, integrating interactive features to engage users.

Weekly meetings with WWF ensured scientific accuracy, while adaptive breakpoints maintained seamless functionality across devices.

“Immersing the user in the content was our priority, and we achieved this by combining VEV’s parallax feature with illustrated diagrams to create a seamless flow between sections.” — Enzo, HLabs’ Creative Designer

The Conclusion

Blue Carbon showcases HLabs’ strength in harmonising design and technology. Within weeks, we successfully planned, executed, and launched a stunning interactive experience that earned recognition on Awwwards.com. By turning scientific jargon into accessible, interactive storytelling, we helped WWF highlight essential conservation efforts in a visually engaging way, bringing science to life for a wider audience.
